Yes Men documentary goes online via Bittorrent to evade censorship

Prankster activists The Yes Men are sick of having the videos depicting their shenanigans taken down through copyright complaints, so they've put the latest video, a full-length doc called The Yes Men Fix the World up as a torrent file through VODO, resistant to censorship and easy to get.
VODO's sixth release is the special Peer-To-Peer Edition of the multi-award-winning The Yes Men Fix The World. This edition, made exclusively for VODO, includes exclusive controversial footage of the Yes Men impersonating the United States Chamber of Commerce. The Yes Men are being sued over this action, and see P2P as the best and only way this material will get seen. They're calling for it to be copied as far and wide as possible...

"We have been impersonating people in power in to make political points for over a decade. The Yes Men Fix the World is our second feature film. It's won a bucket of awards and accolades, but we're still broke. We are hoping that people who share it will donate some money so that we can do even more outrageous actions."

The Yes Men Fix The World -- Peer-to-Peer Edition (Thanks, Jamie!)

    1. But not before I got it. Thanks Cory, I’ve been looking forward to seeing this movie, and I’ll keep it seeded for quite a while.

  1. I think Penn of Penn & Teller often criticized Michael Moore and Sasha Baron Cohen for manipulative exposure of other people. Is this the same? Are they putting people into those position they would like to expose?

    1. I think Penn of Penn & Teller often criticized Michael Moore and Sasha Baron Cohen for manipulative exposure of other people.

You mean those two guys that filled bottles with water from a garden hose and then later tricked people at a restaurant by telling them it was fancy, bottled spring water?

      Those guys? -_-

    2. Do Penn and Teller need to approve everything you watch or something? I don’t get this at all.

If you haven’t seen what the Yes Men do, go watch it for yourself.

  2. The first torrent link in the linked link is dead. You have to grab the larger file by clicking the ‘other download options’.

I honestly couldn’t understand how a torrent could be BB’d to death. They get BETTER with more people, not worse!

    1. They get BETTER with more people, not worse!

The torrent file you need to download the actual torrent parts is hosted on a website in one place. Once you get that file, then the distributed magic happens… but not until then.

Until we have widespread use of browsers that can view html from torrent html files, etc. — we still need to rely on old-fashioned web servers to host the torrent file you need and deal with shortcomings like being boing-boinged from heavy traffic.

  3. Yes Men appear to try and Fix The World by wanting to sue another activist group, the Committee for the Reimbursement of the Indemnity Money Extorted from Haiti.

Go, Yes Men! Stick it to the man! As long as your bank account isn’t affected, that is…

  4. I honestly think the Yes Men comment on the blog you linked is more than a little tongue in cheek. You don’t complement someone on enlightening you as you sue them into hell… Well, Large corporations do, but the Yes Men appear to be the exact opposite of this, and seem to openly encourage rebellion of this type. They just wanted to say they had nothing to do with this particular stunt.

The video linked above is actually very enlightening, too. Both in what they actually get away with, and what the corporations get away with, and actually profit from!

  5. Sorry, I’m confused. Can someone enlighten me as to why their own stuff is being taken down over copyright violations?

    1. ^^ Here’s a link:

The Chamber of Commerce can suck it. They are nothing but big business dickheads.

I was in NYC last Sept. when the Yes Men did a fake NY Post prank (and some other things) about climate change. Was fun to see a prank as it happened on the street. People reading their free Post as they walked around and sat in the park. I got a great shot of a guy contemplating his copy while he got his shoes shined outside Bryant Park..

  6. I love the ‘show how you think the world SHOULD be’ strategy. Something went wrong with my download (i think, that was my first torrent download, weird) and had no sound but still watched it as i worked. it was the ballsiest silent movie I’ve ever seen.

Also, the Chamber of Commerce can suck it.

  7. Either they’re pranking their own film distribution company, or they’re actually subversive filmmakers getting distribution via the underground because it still works.

    My money’s on the latter.

  8. Invictus @ 8.

I think you really read the article you point to wrong. Now admittedly their letter has no irony tag included but I severely doubt the yes men are even contemplating suing another activist group for stealing their stick. I think the yes men know exactly how absurd that is and are making light of it. I think their letter to the French activists is super flattery for a job well done and a cause worthy.

  9. Downloaded it from the link on Pirate Bay and saw it yesterday. It’s good to see there are people trying to make this place a better world… Will recommend to everyone ! Good luck with the stupid lawsuits.
