Oh didn't you like Fahrenheit 451? François Truffaut made the most amazing representation of the book. The ending when it begins to snow gave me chills.

Oh, as a side note to everyone very concerned about this song's definition of Bradbury as a sci-fi writer: not a single member of The Beatles is actually a walrus, despite what they might say. It's just a song. Same for the eggman.

Card always has his gay characters commit suicide or otherwise die horribly (I haven't read anything by him since Songmaster, which is when I finally got sick of his evil bullshit). His homophobic scumbagness is consistent in both his writing life and Mormonic life. I don't know if he's a closet case or not, but he's certainly a deeply rotten human being, and I have no sympathy for him.

Don't buy his books. If you must read them, check them out of a library, borrow them from a friend, or buy them used (this also keeps money out of OSC's hands.

I hope he lives a long, long life in terrible loneliness, never telling his own truth to anyone, and dies alone and despairing. And I'd also hope he's Cast Into The Outer Darkness Where There Will Be Wailing And Gnashing Of Teeth, except I don't believe in that. He does, though, so I hope he reads this, the dirty piece of shit.

It needs to be done right, not just done, which means a lot of cards need to fall perfectly, which will never happen.

Well, the one Card I hope will fall perfectly is Orson Scott. And I hope he busts his head open.

Luddite or not, last time I saw him speak (maybe 10-15 years ago), he totally took his time during the signing flirting with my ex-GF; charming as heck, but definitely a bit of the dirty-old-man vibe going there.

So it's "F* Me, Ray Bradbury" in the link, but "Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury" is plainly visible as the title of the embedded video.

Pointless self-censorship for the win!

He had some truly great works, it's true, but 'the' greatest? I just don't see it. It seems to be Philip K. Dick has probably the longest-lasting impact on storytelling, and Heinlein has had the strongest impact on sci-fi writers.

Glad to hear Mr. Bradbury enjoyed the video.

If your favorite author is really better than Ray Bradbury, please post a link to the video of people singing "f*ck me, (name of your favorite author)" here. We'd love to see it.

What Tyger said. PKD FTW. I don't even know that most of Bradbury's work can truly be classified as SF--more like melancholy prose poems that happen to occur in the future. (F451 would be the exception, not the rule.)

"The Simpsons: Lisa's Substitute (#2.19)" (1991)
Martin Prince: As your president, I would demand a science-fiction library, featuring an ABC of the genre. Asimov, Bester, Clarke.
Student: What about Ray Bradbury?

Insisting that it had nothing to do with government censorship or book banning, Ray Bradbury now insists his book Fahrenheit 451 is warning about the “Internets”, a cautionary tale about the dangers of Net Neutrality taking away all our freedoms. As he is fond of saying, “I write about the future with the intention of preventing it!”

This is, of course, much different from his original assertion that it was indeed about government censorship and the banning of books and ideas, but he has now changed his mind to fit the new modern discourse of his own personal politics.
