I've heard it said that the true driving force behind German militarism in the past was the search for something to eat that wasn't stuffed in a sausage casing.

At one time I had proposed to myself to write a book, and I had an idea for a scene in such a member's only restaurant. A very posh, stylish (and dimly lit) restaurant, where people would sit down to eat after having some part removed. Or the top of their skull, a la Hannibal. The idea frankly sickened me a bit too much. But I fancied that the most expensive dish should be the heart of the chef. Yeah, I wish I could get that scene out of my head, the hospital smells from anesthetics mingled with blood oozing from fresh amputations onto evening dresses and tuxedos, and some very, very pale patrons.

For the people getting upset, the food is voluntarily provided. So you don't have to lose your head about it. And besides, I bet the wait staff in such a place is trained to be very disarming with their more irate patrons.

Ah, at last a restaurant with real heart! I hear the kitchen staff uses a lot of elbow grease. We went there the other night because we were having friends for dinner. I'd recommend the lady fingers served with head cheese, followed by filet of sole. But avoid the Napolean dessert -- I hear it's not fresh. :-)

Cannibalism with voluntary donors? It could start two trends at once: new cuisine sensation, and new far-out death ritual. If it ever became legal, it should thrive.

I have felt for many a year that I would taste quite delicious to the discerning long-pig gourmand. . .enough muscle and meat to feed the whole clan, often massaged and beer fed Every Day. It would be too painful to check, but I'm sure my flesh is well marbled with just enough subcutaneous fat to make roasting and BBQ a breeze.

I feel rather proud about this; but sorry Deutschland. . .too far for me to go (even one way), if any reputable establishment in the Pacific Rim however. . .wait, no. . .on second thought: nevermind.

Must be a hoax, with a well chosen location to reinforce the prejudice that if Germans are not Nazis, they are perverts (or both).
I'll bet there are some artists behind the whole thing, holding up a mirror to society and whatnot.
There is nothing about this in the German media, only a website for the supposed restaurant.

I've been joking for years that if i ever open a restaurant i am going to put Long Pig on the menu. Just two lines, something like "long pig; ask your server for availability and price". Of course, i think 99.99% of the time i wouldn't have it available.
