This is cool news, but I just wanted to add the following...

As someone who has taken part in BCI research and used a (proper) BCI system, I feel I should warn away potential Emotiv customers. It uses relatively few channels, and in reality, even a full BCI system can be pretty disappointing. Research is ongoing into BCIs without the need for conductive gel, which for now is vital in reducing noise.

Motor imagery based control (left/right etc) performance is pretty dismal for almost everyone. The p300 response is far more promising, however I don't believe the emotiv has the right electrode positions for that.

In short, save your monies.

this is the beginning of my experience with brain computer interface.
i have loads of pics. electrodes in and outside the brain.
heavy stuff but i received an A+
i was the 7th person in that study and experimented with new tests that no one had tried before.
why not, what else should one do waiting for a seizure to kick in before surgery?

I'm more interested in buying a DIY EEG hardware kit with easy to follow instructions and stuff, but I’m thankful someone is going through the effort to open up the Emotiv. The Emotiv company should embrace this, but we'll see how smart (or stupid) they are...

http://openeeg.sourceforge.net/doc/hw/

And there's already plenty of apps for that.....

I'd rather see a "God helmet" commercially (and reasonably so) available than a BCI...
