A picture is different from a movie, but it’s still parody, which is protected.

Yep, as Crubellier said, it’s basically Zero Hour now.
Still made me laugh, tho, remembering the jokes that would follow if they didn’t cut exactly where they did.

Strangely captivating… and of course… “I just wanted to let you both know good luck – we’re all counting on you.” Not *all* the jokes are cut ;) And yeah, I always thought the propeller sound was really funny. They don’t make em’ (comedy films) like they used to.

Zero Hour! definitely is what Airplane! was based on. I recommend it highly for any Airplane! fan. It’s a surreal experience. You can feel where the jokes are. Much of the dialogue in Airplane! was lifted directly from Zero Hour! so the deadpan setup is built-in.

Sterling Hayden is even more over the top than Robert Stack as well, and the co-pilot was also an athlete cast in an acting role. And, Zero Hour! was written by Arthur Hailey, who went on to write Airport, which was also an influence on Airplane!

Anyone who says that Airplane! without the comedy is Zero Hour clearly hasn’t seen Zero Hour. That movie is a laugh riot!

They started the trend, with this movie, of taking deadly serious hack actors and giving them funny lines to read, thus changing the courses of their careers.

Somewhat like what SNL later did to Alec Baldwin.

What an odd feeling! I watched the whole thing with my breath short because I was somehow expecting to laugh at any second. It was like that feeling you get when you know a sneeze is coming but never does.
