Has anyone noticed that the combination volume/power switch (such as nearly all radios used to have) has disappeared?

I handed my daughter my Dremel tool to use in a project, and she was baffled by the speed control (which is exactly like an old-style volume control) until I demonstrated. This is a kid who has no problems using 21st century technology.

Like rotary phones, I guess.
