robocop.jpg In the Boing Boing DIY Hallowe'en open thread, an anonymous reader says,

"I just saw this DIY robocop costume for a 2-year-old kid. Best part is, he actually lives in Detroit and did a whole photo shoot around town, even with real Detroit police."

You absolutely have to see the entire photo essay over at Sweet Juniper blog.

Awesome story. What an adventure for the little guy. :)

“But I was at the bar with my friend and his female companion the other day talking about working on this costume and she was like, ‘Wait, who’s Robocop?’ Turns out she was born only a year before the movie came out, so maybe I need to set the stage here.”

Oh, whatever. I was born TWO years before Robocop and saw the entire trilogy before the end of elementary school.

A lot of pop culture knowledge isn’t about age; it’s about the type of interests you have, the kind of crowds you run.

A person who’s 40 and not a geek is likely more ignorant of pre-1980 pop culture than a devoted geek of 20. (Heck, even my non-geeky friends know who Robocop is. Fucking Robocop!)

SweetJuniper is a generally awesome blog. I read it every day. :) He’s definitely a Detroit promoter and has a great selection of photos.

  • MarkM

    WOW, what a WIN:
    the photo of the L’il Robocop with 3 actual Detroit cops;
the photos at the actual sites used for the movie (incl the GM Renaissance Center).

  • kromekoran

    coolest kid ever.

  • Muse

The photos of the Robotyke in his natural habitat are priceless.

This is one lucky kid. He has a great dad.

“I’d buy that for a dollar!”

  • IronEdithKidd

I hope professor Weller appreciated the photos that Hollywood guy sent to him. That’s an awesome costume!

  • Frank_in_Virginia

Well done and a great dad!

  • Metostopholes

Awesome! It’s a really good costume, especially considering it’s made “out of crap [he] had in [his] basement.” :D
