The clouds of Michelangelo

wowjustwow.jpg

Part of me wants to add some crazy fact about cloud formations to this photo from the Boing Boing Flickr pool by reader Sean Frego. But I keep getting distracted by what a flippin' amazing image it is. Let's just sit back and awe a bit, shall we?

  1. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

  2. Would those be the Red Skies at Night over the Midwest? Because out here on the West Coast, we have Blue skies…if you catch my drift.

    1. Yo Die Antwoord, I’m really happy for you, and I’ll let you finish, but Hejira* was one of the best albums of all time. Of all time!

*Or Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter. I have trouble deciding.

  3. The last time I saw clouds like this, is was just before Ming the Merciless knocked the moon out of orbit in preparation for his attack on the Earth.

Good thing Flash Gordon was here to… HE SAVED EVERY ONE OF US! STANDS FOR EVERYONE OF US!!! HE SAVED WITH A MIGHTY HAND EVERY MAN, EVERY WOMAN EVERY CHILD IN THE LAND FLAASSH!!!

    1. But that’s a good song too, and I’m sure I saw that movie too – it did have great clouds:

He WILL save each and every one of us!!

  4. With the BB version in one tab, and the original in another, it appears the BB version is a lot redder/darker than the original.

Mistake when re-sampling, or an attempt to make it seem moodier?

    1. I assure you, I do not have the software necessary to make anything seem moodier (other than a short story, perhaps). I thought it looked a little darker when I posted, but I tried again and couldn’t get it to come out lighter…and it still looks good…so. Whatever.

Wait. I mean. Yes. You caught me. It’s an evil BoingBoing conspiracy.

  5. Sometimes I see clouds in the sky and think “If this were in a movie everyone would think it was fake.”

  6. omg, i can’t believe i missed the joni mitchell reference. well, here is a much more obvious one… even i couldn’t miss it.

btw, maggie, i think its pretty clear hejira takes it, but, then again, i grew up on my parents’ vinyl copy of clouds… so that one definitely deserves special mention.

anyway, thank you for the ~allusions~ :)
