Somehow I have made every pair of shoes I've ever owned into slip-ons without any inner-tube.

This could be useful to me since I can't tie shoe laces due to my disabilities. :(

If you don't like the look or don't trust the durability of cut-up innertubes, they sell elasticized lacing at just about any store with a sewing department.

This would be a GREAT idea for folks that can't tie their shoes so well anymore. I'm thinking this would make things a bit easier for the elderly, folks with arthritis, etc. And for busy parents of little kids who aren't quite experts at tying their own shoes yet or special kids who still have a little trouble doing it themselves and want to feel independent.

It's a neat idea. I guess it depends on what kinds of shoes you have, though. I'm not sure I have anything that this would be appropriate for and I don't like to wear worn-out sneakers and the like (where this would be perfect).

You are now my 11 yo lace challenged son's hero. Just this morning I informed him that they do no longer make shoes his size (41!) with velcro. But geez, I don't want to take an exacto to an inner tube, and given his inability to tie laces, neither should he.

this is one of those "omgwhydidntithinkofthat!" things.

i guess the same effect could be achieved using a large diameter rubber band, too.
