A 22-year-old man in Whittier, California was arrested yesterday for allegedly trying to run down his former girlfriend after she turned down his proposal of marriage. LAPD helicopters spotted him afterwards wandering around with a bouquet of flowers.
The incident took place Thursday afternoon at Burger Stop, a restaurant on Slauson Avenue in Pico Rivera, where Hernandez had proposed to the woman, Berg said.
Hernandez's car had the proposal "Stacy Will You Marry Me?" written on the back window of his car, according to reports.
"She said no. He was a little unhappy with that," Berg said.
Hernandez allegedly drove onto the sidewalk through some bushes and into the restaurant parking lot, narrowly missing the woman, Berg said. Hernandez then allegedly tried to drive away from the scene with two flat tires.
The victim survived.

Well, what else could he do?
“Narrowly missing the woman.” By that definition, I run people over whenever I drive through a busy parking lot. Still insane, but completely not the same thing.
Kudos to the unidentified ex-girlfriend on making the objectively correct decision as to Yes or No.

Well said.
How could she say no to someone so gentle, caring and mature? In time I know she’ll regret her decision.
How come no one is talking about the anthropomorphized cheeseburger that tried to stop him?
Boing Boing, you are my only source of news. How am I supposed to know what the hell is going on if you don’t tell the whole story and fact check cheese things?
Trust me, buddy — she’s just playin’ hard to get.
He misses her.
In all seriousness, at what point in this story did she become the “former” girlfriend? Was he proposing to his former girlfriend? Did she break up with him when rejecting the proposal – it’s conceivable she said no to the proposal but was happy to continue as girlfriend? Did it become an implicit breakup after he attempted to run her down? Or did she explicitly say – or rather pant in broken gasps after being chased – “you crazy-assed m*fo, we’re through!”? It really isn’t clear.
My favorite bit: LAPD helicopters spotted him afterwards wandering around with a bouquet of flowers. Was he going to try again, since he missed, or did he have someone else in mind?
@Anon: The “tried” bit is important here. He drove up on the sidewalk with the intent of running her over; presumably he was foiled when she moved aside. I certainly hope you don’t drive like that in any parking lot…
If she had said, ‘yes’, I fear she’d have eventually ended up in the news after all, though in far worse shape.
I can’t imagine why any woman would say “no” to a hopelessly romantic guy who proposed to his girl at a BURGER STOP!
Now THAT is an unhappy meal.
And they say romance is dead.
Simple case of LA love gone wrong, Happens alla time there. Those ppl are frackin nuts. LA will make ya wanna run over ppl alla time even if they are on the sidewalk. Buncha nut-cases runnin around there.
Oh and the girl in the story, she was just lookin for a free ride from the boyfriend, the getting married would have ended all the money grubbing and caused her to have to work for a living.
Bummer!
Reminds me of Banks of the Ohio, but with a less gruesome end:
