Repeat Viewings: fun science fiction animation about nostalgia for the 90s

Quicklyfailing's senior thesis project was this short animated movie called "Repeat Viewings," of which he says, "An animated film about a man distant future rife coping with a peculiar breed of mid-1990's nostalgia and useful pets." It's a cute and fun 11 minutes' worth of stylish animation and wry humor.

  1. does anyone around has a clue why they placed that barcode leading to that book “We are all victims of duty?”. maybe i am tired or stupid, but i am not exactly getting it.

  2. the qr code is a philip k dick quote

“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.
    -Philip K. Dick”

  3. As someone who had a parent die as a teenager, I didn’t really view it as “cute and fun.”

    It was good, though.

  4. I agree with Rachel H. It is cute and fun for the first several minutes…but by the end ‘Cute and Fun’ doesn’t really apply, IMHO.

    1. He could have been using NT 3.5. That supported long file names but still had the old shell seen in the animation. :)

  5. Firefox -> KeepTube -> GOM -> Pause -> Next Frame -> ES400 with DataWedge

I got “Sur les pavés, le plage!”, “I don’t like nostalgia unless it’s mine. -Lou Reed”, “We are all victims of duty. -Eugéne Ionesco”, “Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away. -Philip K. Dick”, and “http://www.danashwood.com/rvs.html”, in that order. The URL appears to be working now, and says “Bullet in a Quiver — Coming to a pair of resonant paper cones near you! — May 7, 2011”

  6. Cut out the section with the QR codes in it and extracted every frame using ffmpeg. Heres what they read in order.

“Sur les paves, le plage!” -On the cobblestones, the beach!
“I don’t like nostalgia unless it’s mine. -Lou Reed”
“We are all victims of duty. Eugene Ionesco”
“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away. -Philip K. Dick”

    Interesting.

  7. Should be “Sous les pavés, le plage!” (Under the paving stones, the beach – a Situationist slogan in the 1968 Paris student revolt).

I liked the animation very much.
