    A friend of mine had a bit of ancillary Mr. Peabody ephemera from the time of the original show that spelled the name of the machine WABAC — which made it a better joke name for a giant computrola of the time, I always thought.

    A beta? It’s been around for years …

    The term ‘beta’ has just been adopted for use on things that don’t work very well, rather than genuine pre-realeses.
