I’m not particularly into cats or Steampunk, but I have to admit: if I were a James Bond villain, that little tyke would be sitting on my lap!

[/agrees that it's more Flash Gordon-ish than Steampunk]

    Borg Cat! Here’s a Borg Ant: http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/pictures/BorgAnt.jpg :P

  • ruzkin

It’s a really nice helmet, but it’s not steampunk in the slightest, and of all the tech/nerd blogs on the net I’d think that Boingboing would be the one to give half a damn about getting its spec-fic genres correct.

  • Klaus Æ. Mogensen

Looks like something Dejah Thoris’ cat would wear.

The cat seems to be thinking: “This seems to be important to my crazy human pet, so I will endure it … for now.”

  • HotPepperMan

Given it distorts the whiskers it is CERTAINLY bad for the cat. Not a good idea. PETA would have a field day…

  • userw014

It would be wrong for me to say my Pointy Eared Bosses need this.

But I’d sure like to have pictures of them wearing something like this while out in the backyard hunting small things that scream from the lawn.

    sooooo cool

BoingBoing should rename itself – StoimPoink?

  • Thad E Ginataom

    Not steampunk.

Lets ban steampunk anyway… it’s not clever, it’s just fake. boingboing would be a better place without it.

Actually, this is quite cute, although the cat would be cuter without it.

  • antagu

A video of the fitting and release would be helpful. IF the helmet stays on, there would be harsh scraping sounds in low overhead clearance areas making the cat absolutely FREAK !!!!

If I had wanted a phraint head on a cat, I’d have engineered it.

  • Hanglyman

It looks good on kitty, but I guarantee that two seconds later it was swiped onto the floor by an annoyed paw. Cats and fashion don’t mix.

  • Zergonapal

I see impending doom in those eyes, excellent cat is not pleased.

    Looks like Cher

  • vancouvergrrl

Newt would have all four sets of long claws out before I’d get that anywhere near on him but picture it on a large black cat. I wonder what it’s made of?

  • Dennis

It looks reall cool but it remembers me of the golden compass width that war bear :P

  • Boondocker

Okay, now you’re just baiting us.

  • Shibi

I love it! I have an extra large black cat who, while normally docile and occasionally a trickster, would probably tear off my face for putting this helmet on him.

  • Alvis

I’m not getting a steampunk vibe from it. Looks Greek/Roman.

    • Hagrid

It’s the rivets that make it Steampunk.

      • dwdyer

“It’s the rivets that make it Steampunk.”

I’m gonna use that as a generic reply to such questions in the future.

  • Anonymous

That is the picture in the dictionary next to “pissed-off cat.”

  • Mitch_M

I’m inclined to doubt that the cat thinks it’s excellent.

  • Anonymous

This is awesome; would love to have one for my Greymalkin; though to be honest I get a big warcrafty feel from it.

  • chgoliz

    C’mon, that’s gotta be shopped.

What cat would ever allow such a thing on his or her royal head?

  • wastrel

It looks like something from Flash Gordon.

  • jackie31337

Did this make anyone else think of Princess Nell’s mouse army from Diamond Age?

  • Rob Cruickshank

“Wait, when you said “steampunk helmet”, I thought it was gonna have goldfish.” -the cat

  • Sork

Steampunk? It doesn’t even look Victorian.

  • Anonymous

Steampunk what? You’re not familiar with Elfquest, I take it.

    • DoctressJulia

Yeah, wow, that’s what I was thinking! Kinda like Skywise’s head band… :)

  • Jud Turner

    Looks uncomfortable for the cat.

Jeff De Bour takes this concept much farther (but doesn’t make his cat try the armor on):
