David Kaplan took this stunning photograph of the moon and Venus over Trübbach, Switzerland. At his website, there are dozens like it: foggy valleys under clear night skies, painterly European cityscapes, and simple, numinous natural scenes. NASA Picture of the Day [NASA via Uncertain Times]

    Whoville!

Why is Venus or the moon so far out of the plain of the solar system in this shot?

I am an amatuer and photos can make it hard to judge the degrees, but I thought everything in the solar system was within a few degrees of the same plain.

On his site, some of the shots have me speechless. Awesome work. I wish I lived in Switzerland.

Is this “kinkade effect” something positive or negative?

    • RedShirt77

Its how a particular painter cranked out a ton of popular paintings that artsy types think are similar to the large eyed paintings of the 70′s.

They are the sorts of paintings you would do as a puzzle.

    Lovely!
Are you sure this wasn’t taken on Venus?

  • jenjen

Thomas Kinkade should sue nature for copyright infringement.

This picture is truely breath taking, it looks as if you could just walk on that blanket of fog. What an experience that must have been to see that so close up.

Are you sure that “David Kaplan” really isn’t a cover for “Thomas Kincaid”?

  • BB

I was drawn in, but felt like something was not exactly real. I think it is the Kinkade effect, you guys are right.
