boxthumb.jpg What's in the box? We had so many wonderfully humorous explanations of why you need to know that it's a shame there aren't enough boxes to go out to everyone. Alas, the window of opportunity is now closed; the recipient has been picked. Thank you all so much for your interest in such a trivial mystery! Its resolution is now out of my hands.

The Snowden Principle

I hope the winner will be kind enough to reveal the contents.

To say the least. I don’t think we’re looking for an unpacking video, just a simple textual list.

But an unpacking video would be a nice touch… :)

    Gwyneth’s head, no doubt.

A thought- how about the recipient not open the box, auction it off with the proceeds to go to EFF, Kickstarter, Kiva, or some other charity? BB could sponsor a webcast to show off the auction winner’s opening ceremony.

The Box submissions are a fine a comment thread as any, really. There are some gems in there.

Now, I hope you don’t mind this hijack: Can there be a way to timestamp and order the comments at the time they are received at Location X, instead of presenting them in the order they are timestamped in whatever time zone in which they are made (which is often technically an hour or two “earlier” than a comment posted 15 minutes before in a different time zone)? It gets difficult to track the location of one’s own comment and some repartee is disjointed when the current method is used. Just a question.

I’m a big fan of your work. Have a great day.

I have a problem with your question. So say Person x is the person who has the box and is waiting for the comments to start appearing. And lets say Person y is the first person to comment. Finally Person z is the second to comment. X and Z are in the same time zone in America at 5:30 pm, yet Y is in Paris where the time is 11:30 pm (I checked and I’m right.) At this precise time, Y makes the first comment. the comment is sent all the way to X’s computer. Due to the amazing efficiency of the web as we know it, the comment from the Y at 11:30 pm is still shown as 5:30 pm in X’s computer. 10 min elapse and Z makes the second comment. Their comment is then shown as 5: 40 pm because their computer does not work time zones into when the comment is shown as being posted.

I don’t think you have a problem with my question. I think you rather have a hypothetical situation derived from the general premise of my question.

And… I don’t see the problem. In fact, that is what I am getting at: Once someone makes a comment 10 minutes after someone makes a comment, that comment will always be shown as having been made 10 minutes after that comment.

For example, when my comment first appeared, it was the 4th comment (there was no comment re: Gwyneth).

        I’m sorry about this.

Awww. I am yet again a loser. :(

  • GrandeeSubRosa

I have a potentially stupid question, but i commented and should be eligible for the box, but i have never given BB my address. wtf? how do they know where to send the box?

  • RedShirt77

    Who?

  • Raj77

They’ll contact the winner and ask for their address? I do hope you don’t send yours to everyone.

  • johnfoster

Yes, if ever you win anything, we’ll be in touch via whatever info is available in your profile, via twitter, etc. Obviously, anonymous comments aren’t much use in giveaways or contests if you actually want to get something!
