I kind of like Minecraft — but isn’t it interesting that hipsters look down on The Sims but love Minecraft? They are both “games” that have no real point other than messing with the environment provided.
Is there something wrong with existential daydreaming? I don’t play either, but my niece & younger coworkers love it. They like that they don’t need to be given quests, they just do what they want. Most of them play The Sims, too, which I’m going to try as soon as the medieval one comes out.

It fills the same need that any game fills. It is all pointless, but it still is a fun way to kill a few hours.
I still think of it as being somewhere loosely in between Dwarf Fortress and Second Life.
