Epbot captured this magic moment from the Miami Comic-Con: "John and I happened upon this little Cinderella solemnly flipping through the pages of a book and showing them all to R2D2, who was responding enthusiastically with beeps and whirs." Now, that's a successful cultural event!

EPBOT: Cinderella, R2D2, and Tasha Yar

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Hackers prepare for first "national holiday" in their honor

  • Donald Petersen

My brother was operating R2-D2 by remote control on this occasion. To eight-year-old me, he was the coolest big brother ever.

    • Mister44

How did the get that gig? Was Anthony Daniels in the 3PO suit?

      • Donald Petersen

He was a receptionist for The Star Wars Corporation back in the day, before it got absorbed into Lucasfilm. I’ll have to ask him if he asked for that gig, or whether the brass just said, “Hey Mick, whaddaya doin’ on Sunday night? Know how to handle a joystick?”

As for 3PO, I don’t know for sure if it’s Anthony Daniels in there, but I can’t think of any reason why it wouldn’t be. Would he have had something better to do that evening? I’ll ask my brother, see if he remembers.

I like how C-3PO’s rockin’ the black tie. He was made for formal occasions!

Translated: “Read it to me, Cinderella; you’re my only hope!”

Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. I’ve lost a shoe.

Reminds me of “Robbie”, the first short-story in “I, Robot” by Asimov.

  • bjepson

“Aren’t you a little short for a princess?”

  • God45

Hey, it’s that bleepy robot from Episode I !

  • Ultra Fem

I was there. That’s Denise Crosby in the upper left, FYI.

  • SKR

I would have never guessed that was Crosby. God I feel old.

    • PDXgirl

Three deaths will age a Tasha Yar.

    So, the new meme is:

    “Cinderella/R2D2 chaser please”.

  • BookGuy

It’s like the listening dogs from the earlier post, except with droids.

  • Tatsuma

    Who Denise Crosby?

    • Boondocker

Denise Crosby is the heir to the Crosby’s Molasses fortune. She is taking advantage of the special place that comic-book geeks hold in their hearts for sweet, sweet molasses.

      • Ugly Canuck

        Sweet ’tis true….

        …but molasses, it ain’t.

That last little number is dedicated to the memory of Lt. Tasha Yar, and goes to all those ships out at sea tonight.

Yes, Virginia – the Force is REAL!

R2 units are good in a pinch, when you can’t find a greyhound.

  • MollyMaguire

Are you sure R2 wasn’t holograming the whole scene?

    • Chaoskitten

Yeah, it looks like a tiny hologrammatic rendering of a princess reading to me too. Maybe Leia made some audiobooks to while away the time between diplomatic engagements in space.

  • Mister44

OMG – that is too damn cute.
