The white, angular version in particular reminds me of one of my first Javascript meddlings, serving up randomised grids of Truchet tile images in various combinations, though I always preferred the much simpler one that arranged grids of variously sized circles. I forget whether that makes me a human or a replicant.

But I can certainly see the appeal of a physical version like this, if only because a guest adjusting one of the cubes provides an excellent excuse for flying into a rage and asking them to leave.

Brooklyn5and10 wanted $11.75 to ship UPS ground. Eeesh.

I found the red version at

https://www.fatbraintoys.com/toy_companies/noted/motif_cubes.cfm

For a buck less and a bit more reasonable shipping. Hurry, only 13 left at the time of this posting!

I don't know, I was actual struck by the sight of this and can see myself playing with one of these for some time. I love playing with puzzles that I can manually manipulate (I just finished reading the article on the Russian power plant with its knobs and buttons... hmm, I wonder where my Rubik's Cube went....

I hate to be the negative commentator of the thread (NCOTT), but my mom gives me a few of these kinds of things every year (including this exact set). They gather dust and I feel bad throwing them away, and few people want them. So I would simply like to suggest that owning them *may* not be as rewarding as it seems. You can get way more than billions of combinations out of a pen and paper. YMMV.

I'm sure there's a virtual board just like this, which you can play with and dispose of by only burning a few electrons. Just a thought...

I might be missing something but I'm counting (6^9)/4 combinations (6 sides, 9 cubes, divided by four to account for different rotations.) Which works out to "only" 2.5 million.

Whoops: (24^9)/4 because every side of a dice can be oriented in one of four ways. That's indeed 660 billion.
