The outfits predate the Klan by several hundred years. They’re worn by penitents who march in parades during holy week in southern Spain and have been since at least the 1500s. Do an image search for Semana Santa, and you’ll see huge parades of hooded parishioners marching through the streets of Seville. I wouldn’t assume Mardi Gras is echoing the Klan as much as New Orleans’ Catholic and Spanish heritage.

I didn’t say they WERE the Klan, just that the outfits REMIND me of them.

Still, nice to learn of the origin of the outfits.

Watching with my daughter, we both noticed that there wasn’t a single overweight person in the footage. The ROTC marchers are soooo skinny. Times have changed.
