Analogue Interactive created this
walnut-enclosed Neo Geo console. It's not just a one-off, either: they plan to start shipping them in May for the same price as the 1990 original, which heralded the era of consoles that were as powerful as real arcade games. At $649, though, it doesn't come cheap! [via

Really, Thinkgeek’s $150 Star Trek White Noise Sleep Machine does it all: projects a moving starfield on your ceiling, plays starship-like white noise loops while you drift off, presents a goofily plausible UI and form-factor straight out of the Roddenverse, and can even play the red alert klaxon as its alarm-tone.

A custom antique? isn’t that an oxymoron?
How strange. Are there people so crazy about this old thing that they’ll actually pony up that sort of money? Maybe. I am surprised to see that the old Neo Geo consoles and games still trade for substantial sums on Ebay.
The Neo-Geo actually was bona-fide arcade hardware packed up in console form, which is why it was so expensive. Although it was impressive in 1990, it was thoroughly leapfrogged by the dawn of 3D-oriented hardware just a few years later.
Wild. It’s pretty but I can’t imagine them selling very many. But what do I know, I’m not their target market.
“Most inexpensive way to play and explore the world of Neo Geo”
Well… sorta kinda not really.
It should be noted that $649 is the price the Neo Geo AES sold for when it was initially released. So for a work of art like this, it’s actually quite the bargain.
A friend of mine had a Neo-Geo. Everything about it was huge. The game cartridges were huge, the controller and its buttons were huge, and when you played Art of Fighting the characters seemed gigantic.
It was so beautiful…
What a waste of wood.
Yeah, it’s not like the stuff grows on trees.
Like the original, this is clearly a luxury item. I dunno how much the insides cost now – I found Neo-Geo Pockets used for $50 but no consoles.
I usually think electronics inside custom wooden cases look kinda cobbled hodge podgey, but this is beautiful.
Never owned one of these, couldn’t afford it, but used to have a Neo Geo Pocket and I loved it. The display, the controls, it was just perfect, and put gameboy to shame. Feel bad that I had to sell it…
Adjusted for inflation, a Neo Geo would cost $1,070-ish today.
I’m holding out for a surprise rose wood edition.
Its Beautiful
Only $650? That’s a bargain if you ask me.
Still out of my price range, though, 20 years later… :(
