dcg @ 2: Great Texas Monthly article. Anyone with any interest in Blind Willie Johnson should check it out.

Anyone else keep getting download errors when trying to get the whole album zip file?

  • LydiRae

I think I might be in love.

For those who don’t know much about BWJ, read this excellent Texas Monthly article: http://www.texasmonthly.com/2010-12-01/feature3.php

Blind Willie was the man. People can say what they want, but I believe this man invented rock and roll, pretty much single handedly. I mean a black, blind, street musician in Waco, TX in the 1920′s is about as far removed from the supposed roots of rock and roll and modern guitar playing as you could be. It never ceases to blow my mind.

good music, but in FF4 on WinXP, the music starts autoplaying when you visit the page. I’m downloading the songs to listen to at my leisure, but it’s really impolite to have music play as soon as you load a page (one reason I hated MySpace). I also hate it when some of the commercial news sites here in Australia auto-play videos, you have to tick a box on every page to not have it start up. I think they’re artificially inflating their video plays.

Blind Willie Johnson’s recorded performances are so powerful, haunting, and surprisingly, needed no background dancers, strobe lights, etc. And live, he needed no electricity.

Good stuff. I could see myself out carving some roads listening to this.

    Thanks a lot!

This is a nice compilation. BWJ created some of the most powerful music I ever heared.
This Post should also mention that one of Willies songs (Dark was the night, cold was the ground)is currently floating through deep space as on of the songs featured on the golden record the voyager missions.

Thanks for posting this; and thanks to Cigar Box Nation for making it available. I just finished listening to the whole album. Glad I downloaded it. Definitely worth a listen.
