An anonymous sticker-comedian has been decorating London tube-maps with commentary on the stations of the Central Line (that's the long red one that runs down the centre). I like this bit of transit-time humor, though the Chunnel-themed one is quite good, too.

Stickers on the Central Line (via Futurismic)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

The Snowden Principle

  • Chong

I have never, ever, hear anyone actually use “Chunnel” in conversation. Probably because they’d get laughed at.

/One of my pet hates. Call it the channel tunnel or Eurostar, please. For me.

    • obeyken

If only there was a Chunnel I could take from Beantown to the Big Apple!

    • Scarecrow Repair

I suppose the Chongel would be right out then.

    • Ugly Canuck

      No chunnel for Chong?

      That’s a pity.

    • Anonymous

Hey, the Channel Tunnel and Eurostar are not the same thing: Eurostar is only one service using the tunnel. There’s also the shuttles and I think some freight trains at night.

Never having been to London, what makes “45 mins travel time” funny?

  • tw15

    >Never having been to London, what makes “45 mins travel time” funny?

Typically, it’s about 3 minutes between stations on the tube (including Woodford to BuckHurst Hill).

  • MacBookHeir

Just what the London Underground needs, more confused tourists! It would be great if this sticker artist would make tens of thousands of similarly “altered” counterfeits of the little fold-out Tube maps available at kiosks and ticket counters. Something like this would especially be confusing for visitors around Olympics time in 2012
