Is that supposed to be a stair case? I would think the over hanging lips of the steps would be bad news for catching one’s feet on.

  • Stefan Jones

Storage, too! And you could use the steps as seating.

This would make a nice ladder to a sleeping loft.

  • Art Carnage

They missed a good opportunity by not making the box interiors into bookcases.

    • cinemajay

That seems like a good idea until the boards begin to bow and then–ruined books.

You mean with shelves? I don’t think that there is enough material left over from the one sheet of plywood to do that.

    @ Anon #16

Now I’m imagining some clever person taking a single sheet of plywood, grinding it down to a powder, then using that powder to make a wood pulp based 3D printer “ink”, and then printing something with it.

    Wow, that is super nifty.

  • imprettyspecial

Hey wait a minute! I posted almost this exact how-to on my own blog almost a year ago.

    That’s soooo weird!

I’m confused. I see your diagram, but it isn’t labeled.
Which is the 10×10 room with the orc guarding the chest?

  • tamgoddess

This is awesome. Except he used Thompson’s Water Seal and it sucks. Use something else.

  • alowishus

    Nifty? That’s super fly.

I look at this and see a great coffee table for a cramped space–you get multiple horizontal surfaces to put coffee cups/plates/drinx on, plus storage space under each nook.

I currently don’t have a coffee/dining table in my teeny tiny living room due to footprint vs. utility issues; this actually would solve it nicely.

I have bad Tetris flashbacks when I look at that board.

You can do searches online for flat-pack or one sheet furniture to find all sorts of ideas like this, if you’re so inclined. There are lots of fun things you can build with one sheet of plywood if you plan it out right.

The height ratio of those stairs makes the seem like they’d be miserable to actually live with day to day.

A consistent 8″ rise? Sounds reasonable to me.

  • WaylonWillie

hey, nice job. this could be tweaked for other uses too…

  • Lady Katey

I don’t think this would work as a bookcase- for the reason that it’s built to be used outside, as steps to the ole’ trampoline. ;)

Descend that in high heels and you’ll break an ankle.

I found this surprisingly inspirational. Thanks for all the links to similar projects and the old popsci contests!

Here’s the fruit of an hour or so of pondering, a single sheet dining table:

Is it really that hard to get up on the trampoline?

Reminds me of the old Popular Science plywood projects which gave out awards for the most clever and efficient use of 1/2 sheets and full sheets of plywood. On their website you can look at old issues with some very neat plywood designs!

You self-standing staircase, I say cat tree.

  • noah django

I love ish like this! I’m impressed.
