I think that was also in reference to the fact that whenever an item is discussed on this site that is expensive and a cheaper version can be got at Wal-Mart folks get up in arms, griping about elitism and how rich bloggers are.
Don't believe me? Search for "leather" and read the comments on some of the articles that come up.
I'm lower middle class, but even I understand that, yes, there is price gouging out there but often you get what you pay for.

I carry a guitar pick around and I don't even play any instrument. Picks make great non-marring pry tools for taking things apart.

Aside from the pick pocket, this looks identical to the front pocket wallet from Saddleback Leather (http://www.saddlebackleather.com/categories/90). The stitching even overlaps in exactly the same places, and all of the pockets appear to be positively identical. I suppose you can only do so much with a front-pocket wallet, but this looks like a direct copy with a pick pocket sewn in.

Which is all fine, I suppose. It's a novel idea, and if it's even remotely as durable as the Saddleback offering, I'm sure it's a great wallet.

After a bit of searching, I found that the proprietor of Whipping Post was an apprentice--or something of that sort--at Saddleback for some length of time. This explains the obvious similarities in craftsmanship.

In that case, these wallets will likely last longer than any of us will. (If recent posts are to be believed, that's 40% more likely if we continue sitting at our desks.) I don't consider $30 to be pricey for a wallet that is likely to last the rest of my life.

Again, if it's anything like the Saddleback offerings, I cannot emphasize enough how sturdy and well-crafted these wallets are.

Thirty bucks seems entirely reasonable for a full-grain leather wallet that's been (according to the site) hand-cut and hand-stitched. Saying it "better damned well" come with a free pick seems kind of... entitled?

As someone who sometimes makes things by hand for sale, I totally understand if folks don't want to buy something if it's too expensive. But when people get offended/outraged/butthurt when stuff is more than they want to pay... that's their right, of course, but that underlying sense of entitlement rubs me the wrong way.

This not intended to be a "screw you, Rob" comment, but more a "hey, I like and respect you guys enough to share my minor quibbles" comment.

I agree entirely.

And I imagine anyone who wanted to get this wallet would already have a pick, the choice of which is somewhat personal and costs at most maybe a dollar.

I could see a wallet for their picks but a wallet also for money? Guitarists don't make money.

I purchased one of these wallets a few weeks ago, and I really like it. It's very well-constructed. The pick is a little tricky to slide in and out, but maybe that'll get easier as the wallet ages and leather settles a bit. But it's slim, which was my biggest priority, and it looks very nice (I got the dark brown one). Kind of pricey at $30 ($35 with shipping), but it's supposed to have a lifetime guarantee.

I really don't understand all of the "kinda pricey" comments. Do you really think that you could make one yourself and be able to sell it for less?
