Find an electric vehicle charging station near you

CarStations uses Google Maps and user submissions to pinpoint the locations of electric vehicle charging stations worldwide. Bearing in mind that "quick charge," means something like 30 minutes at the "pump" to get the battery charged to 80%. I have to assume that the charging stations I'm seeing at various public locations, such as banks, are more for employee use, than for customers or random drop-ins. So far, in the Upper Midwest, many of the available charging stations turn out to be Nissan dealerships. But it's an interesting view of the baby steps of a new infrastructure.

  1. Hmm, I wonder if I can take my Tesla, or next year my Ford Fusion in to the Nissan dealership and charge it up?

  2. I would advise caution before relying on any list such as this. Several lists of NGV filling stations still list a shell station near my house, despite the fact that the actual pump was removed more than a year ago.

  3. word in the comments on some nissan charging stations is that they welcome all electric vehicles, but are happy when they see a Leaf charging.

  4. I heard that in San Francisco all city-owned lots will get a charging station. And, to encourage electric car use, charging will be free during the kickoff of the program.

  5. I thought that the only way to really do this is to have charging stations for batteries, not cars. You would just pull up and swap your battery for a fully charged one: faster than a gas fill up.

    1. What about degradation of the battery, though? They lose capacity with time. Also, I’m assuming that they’re heavy.

  6. There’s a Buffalo Wild Wings near my house with charging stations right near the front.

Now, if only I had an electric car, I could go out for wings and beer more often.
