interested to know how people make such major interpretations based on 30 seconds of teaser. can't be bothered reading all the comments but the original version was not a movie - it was a 6 part tv series that suffered visually because of it.

the remake has got a great director and a great guy doing the soundtrack. yer all being totall anti on the basis that its a remake as opposed to actually SEEING it - which is pretty pathetic really.

How sad is that??? Why did Hollywood copy a perfectly made movie?

Watch the original trailer of the first version of Stieg Larssons Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with the way better actress Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL8LI-h2WFc

So much pointless crying! The Swedish series is lame and has TV quality production. The American version has Daniel Craig and Stellen Skargaard. It's directed by Fincher and has Trent Reznor musically involved. Spare me the whole "there's English dialog on the DVD", the originals are just no good and don't do the source material justice.

Fincher will knock it out of the park - nuff said. Too much belly aching...remember what happened when Reeves remade Let the Right One In? It was enterprisingly good (not better).

I was v. sceptical about this remake. I love the books, even though they may be in need of a good edit, and enjoyed the original Swedish version.

I don't really understand why everyone is so precious about the original. Yes, people can read subtitles, yes they can switch on the English audio... but why can't the Swedish and the remake co-exist? Those books take up a sizable chunk of my shelves. There's enough material in them to make two completely different versions. Probably more.

The trailer somehow manages to allay any of my fears over the remake - I feel a lot more positive about it.

Ya know, I loathe previews like this; no context, no plot allusion, no many other things that just go on and on... just short bursts of random clips. Throw in a rockin' track remade from something was truly good, and it's supposed to be awesome? You could have given it to a 12 year old and the child could have possibly done better.

It's like people don't understand the concept of a "teaser" trailer as being something different from the full length trailer (longer, more plot, more what the movie experience will be, closer to release of the actual film).

This is supposed to tease you. To get excited. And if some quick cutting puts you off more than David Fincher in his wheelhouse and Karen O / Trent Reznor unnecessarily covering Led Zeppelin to great effect... well, just remember, Let Me In was unnecessary, too, but still freakin' awesome.

I like the visuals in the preview; it doesn't linger long on anything so leaves you wanting a deeper look. Given that everyone and their brother has read the trilogy already and/or seen the original movie, I imagine most people have enough context.

I enjoyed the book, and the Swedish film, and if you told me that some random director was making a Hollywood version I'd expect it to be pretty bad. I'm an American--that's how we roll.

But this is David Fincher. He made Fight Club, Zodiac, and The Social Network. Also: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. So it's not a slam dunk. But this is dark, fun material, and should be just right for him. I have high expectations for this movie.

This is going to be horrible. The Swedish movies were great. And they didn't need that ugly remake of a good song.

Rooney Mara got nothing on Noomi Rapace.

Aside from all that, this is a terrible trailer. All those quick cuts made me nauseous.

Well, based on that trailer, I'd say one will be far, far better off watching the 2009 Niels Arden Oplev film. If you're actually interested in things like story and character, of course.

A trailer should provide one with *some* insight into the experience one will have with the film. This trailer scares me away from the film. This trailer tells me I'm in for yet another non-stop Hollywood action-fest with a louder-than-the-apocalypse soundtrack.

Americans will read the books, full of words, but subtitles are just too much. There was absolutely no reason to remake this movie. They made it right the first time.

The first Swedish-language movie was pretty good, but the others were plodding and all three had the workaday production values of TV movies. So I'm going to be quietly hopeful about Fincher's one.

I dunno - I think this looks like it could be much better than the original film. I really think it failed at retelling the novel's story. This seems to leave less out, from the scenes I can recognize.

Also, I hated the Noomi Rapace casting. Ech.

Rooney Mara /= Noomi Rapace plus there is no way they'll be as explicit as the original. Hollywood can't handle a lesbian protagonist who carves a message into her rapist's flesh. I'll still go see it though.

Trailers are not cut by the film's editors nor the director, but by specialized trailer editors for the distribution company. What you see here as a cut will bear little resemblance to what the director will deliver. It would be foolish to look at director, David Fincher's track record and think he's going to give to a dumbed-down, Hollywood version of anything. It may be slick, much in the way that Seven and Fight Club were slick. Dumb, I don't think so. You won't find a more accomplished, current American filmmaker working in in the studio system right now, so I'd hold off on the hate for now.

And Trent Reznor and Karen O updating "Immigrant Song" is hot.

I watch trailers to judge their merits as an artform. It's something of a hobby.

The best trailers are short films unto themselves. Abridged and mysterious versions of otherwise blasé films.

And then there's this. This trailer? Trash.

Awful. I would never watch a film based on having seen this garbage.

Here, whine about the English trailer for the original, it isn't so different: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL8LI-h2WFc

SPOILER!

Will the American film allow Lisbeth to handle her rapist? The Swedish film was brutal with both the rape and the subsequent Lisbeth style payback. If this American remake keeps that aspect of the book and Swedish film, I'll be fine with whatever else they do. Somehow I think the American remake will find a way to send Mikael to the rescue... ho hum.

I was horrified when I heard there would be an American remake of Let the Right One In, but was very pleasantly surprised with the result, so I'm not going to dismiss this film out of hand, without seeing it first.

Also, as big a fan as I am of the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the second film was meh, and the third film was flat out garbage. And maybe they were just a victim of bad translation, but I gave up on the books before I made it to page 100 of the first one. It was about as captivating as reading the police blotter section of a newspaper.
