Ramen Music: indie music zine that pays indie artists

Sudara sez,

I just pushed the publish button on Issue #05 of Ramen Music and I thought boingboingers might enjoy it.

Our issues are unique and a bit hard to describe — think of them as souped-up online compilations of DIY and indie music, complete with interviews, photos, videos. In particular I thought you guys would like Track #2 (bearded baritone uke player with kissable lips) and Track #7 (Susie Asado, amazingly fun lyricist).

I launched Ramen Music late last year after dreaming about it for 6 or 7 years. As a DIY artist, my goal was to create a fair and sustainable mini-ecosystem for artists looking for alternatives to the monolithic music industry. We accept track submissions from anyone and pay artists most of the subscription revenue. Issues are 100% shareable (it's our primary business model!). HQ mp3s and flac and all.

We're just getting started, but we've done ok so far, having paid out over $9000 to artists for our first 5 issues.

Ramen #05

(Thanks, Sudara!)
