DelayedLock: keep your Android screen from locking immediately

DelayedLock is a useful Android app that prevents your device from locking up for a minute or two after you switch it off. I often turn off the handset when following map directions, but it's a pain in the ass to unlock it a few seconds later to figure out which turn goes next. (via Lifehacker)

  1. Is there a tiered or progressive lock out there? One that does a slide unlock after X seconds, then requires a pattern after Y seconds, then requires a PIN after Z seconds or N pattern failures? And possibly starts wiping the phone after M PIN attempts.

  2. That’s why using your phone while driving is illegal here.

Get a dash mounted GPS you menace to society.

  3. Cyanogen let’s you put this feature (and several other switches) right at the top of the notifications pull-down. Incredibly useful when i’m bicycling!

  4. I use Cyanogenmod too, but this particular feature isn’t perfect. It generally does what it says, but sometimes inexplicably doesn’t, and you end up with the screen locked when you weren’t expecting. Haven’t really looked into it to try to figure it out, might be my fault. I wouldn’t be surprised if these kinds of apps aren’t foolproof either, though.
