Having reviewed long-awaited disappointment Duke Nukem Forever back in 2009 (two years before it eventually was released), Zero Punctuation visits the actual game, heaping it with bile and vitriol and comedy until it all swirls together in a kind of angry milkshake.

This week, Zero Punctuation reviews Duke Nukem Forever... again. (via Reddit)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Yahtzee more than anything seems dissapointed…

    for the first time ever…

  • Gracklewolf

    Yahtzee for president!!

  • Mujokan

People were waiting for this since the game dropped.

  • knoxblox

Biased or not, I would have humped my copy of Silent Hill 2 if I could have.

  • Biglig

How have I not heard of this site before? And why am I wasting time talking to you fools instead of watching everything they’ve ever done?

  • turn_self_off

i think that killed some brainscells…

    • relawson

It made my head hurt so bad i’m not even going to try checking out his other stuff. I need at least a day to recover.

That said, “chugging like your mom at a bacon buffet” is pretty much the coolest thing i’ve heard in at least a week.

The Escapist isn’t just Zero Punctuation, but if you feel like watching 100 hours of Zero Punctuation it’s probably possible. However, if you do that you will find that you start to read everything in a Yahtzee styl-ee. This has the advantage of greatly increasing your reading speed, but the downside of making you rather cynical. Try it with this post.

  • DocBadwrench

Yahtzee is a great critic. He is not, however, a reviewer. This A) explains every video he’s ever made, and B) does not explain why a small, but consistent cadre of regular ZP-commenters fail to understand that distinction.

Like so many of you, I’ve been waiting for this for years.

If you watch anything of Zero Punctuation, make sure you at least watch his Orange Box review.

Ok, now I can ask anonymously:

I’ve enjoyed ZP from almost its start, but the one joke I never get is who the man in his generic portait (2:36)? It’s in virtually all the reviews, but I suspect it’s an anglo reference that’s too inside for me.

    • snakedart

      This guy?

      • Anonymous

That’s the face, but he’s not Thomas Ruff. I’m pleased that it wasn’t some incredibly well-known person that I’d never heard of.

  • MrJM

    It wasn’t that good.

  • CH

Oh, yeah!!!! Ever since I wasted 20 min (or whatever, seemed like an eternity) of my life to watch the start of Duke Nukem Forever, I have been eagerly waiting for Yahtzee’s take on it! I absolutely love Zero Punctuation!!!!!

And yeah, I do agree with him. No matter what they did, they wouldn’t have been able to match the fans’ anticipation of it. But holy moly, I could never have anticipated just _how_ bad it was, and I thought the original Duke Nukem was a piece of way, way overrated piece of fuming piece of… dog waste.

MMMMM… love me some zero punctuation, I watch it every week. Another really good series at the Escapist is extra-credit, updates Thursdays, and has some of the smartest mini-lectures on gaming and game design outside of a TED talk.

ZP on Minecraft… I never laughed so hard at a game review. =)

It saddens me to say, Cory, but this makes you sound like you haven’t watched much ZP. Yahtzee takes it pretty easy on Duke Nukem Forever … he’s more sad than anything. If you want bile and vitriol, watch his analysis of Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days.
