Mad steampunk mask and helmet maker Tom Banwell's completed a new one: Taruscat, a thinking helmet, with several aether collectors.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Clearly only intended for circular thinking and the recycling of old ideas.

Or connecting distant parts of the brain.

Looks like Major Grubert’s helmet from ‘The Airtight Garage’

OMG this totally looks like a helmet with the Flying Spagetti Monster on top :-)

The Museum of Questionable Medical Devices in Minneapolis (which is now closed) had “The Psycograph,” an automated phrenology machine, a hat with many calipers on it to find the bumps on your head, and to spit out a list of ratings.

I regret never having gotten “tested” by that device.

This is clearly based on Prof. George Carlin (Dec.) thinking-cap design, which he described as “a big leather, leather deal with big hoops coming out of it.” What album was that from? FM/AM? Some proud pick-and-shovel boy is e’en now upon it, fain me diddle down doo.

RebNachum, that was my first thought too! The album was “On the Road”.

“Can’t you get that through your thick head?” “Keeps hitting my thinking cap.”

Shaped like an overseas helmet, with a crest like a British fire helmet, and constructed like an American leather fire helmet.

    I steam, therefore I punk.

I was checking out Tom’s Web site and I like his plague doctor masks. Also cool are his ambigrams:

And now I can’t stop thinking of Professor X in a steampunk AU
