I watched it as an adult. That show had more ideas per unit volume than anything else I'd ever seen on television.

Pee-Wee's Playhouse was the hit of my time as an art major. It defined Monday morning conversations in the sculpture studio.

What a great show. I loved it as an adolescent and think it had a ton of great messages about acceptance, enjoying yourself and the world around you, etc. All without hitting you over the head with it. Sigh.

@Eye Open Doors: Does that Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle also have a compass in the stock?!!?!!?

And, yes, as a child of the '80's who watched Pee Wee every Saturday morning (when Saturday mornings kicked ass), I would love to see Pee Wee back on television... preferably on Saturday mornings. :D

I prefer the theme music for the TV show to the music for the movie. Let me qualify that. The first part of the TV show theme music is what I liked, before it turned upbeat and Cindy Lauper's voice kicked in. It had a Martin Denny vibe. Mark Mothersbaugh was the composer, from what I recall.

Jason, I was there when that podcast recording happened, and Pee Wee (Paul Reubens) was talking about the movie he is working on with Judd Apatow, not a new series. He also mentioned the HBO special of the Broadway show, so that might be what you are thinking of.) You should see the HBO special if you haven't already.

I've been a Pee Wee fan ever since the first HBO comedy special. More adult-oriented, and hilariously funny.

Somehow, the rehash the troupe did recently didn't seem as great. Of course they were missing Phil Hartman, as well as others, and that seemed to make all the difference.

That was not Cindy Lauper's voice. It was Mae Questal, the original voice of Betty Boop.

I'm glad people enjoyed the animation, hopefully Pee Wee will consider a new series after a movie. I think having it more adult/teen oriented would be really marketable and could have more of the jokes and feel of the movie and broadway shows.

cue the singing flowers:

'We all love it when it rains
dripping on our little brains
people think we are insane
'cause we love it when it raaaaaains!"

Pee Wee: "I love the rain!"

(I still sing that song with my Mom...)

That's probably about what would happen with a reboot of the TV series.

Of course, a movie reboot would turn him into a gun-wielding borderline psychotic, possibly with a drug addiction, fighting a criminal syndicate.

Actually, I might be willing to see that.

The guy who wrote the theme song says it's Cyndi Lauper. Read the info at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKcYGOIJhqo . That's good enough for me. You have any evidence it's not her? That's what I thought.

Back in the day, when this was on on Sat, I had to go to martial art classes and I would power up the VCR to enjoy later. I invited some kids from my class, and my friends to watch some toons. (I was going into the 9th grade). I suggested we watch Playhouse and all the kids watched a few minutes in silence. Nobody got it and I was teased for the remainder of the summer and going to a new school. Eventually I noticed that my friends did not read or do much. So now, I ask people about Pee Wee and gauge their answers on if I want to pursue a friendship. Worked for my girlfriend at the time. What, you love Pee Wee's playhouse? Let's get married. 20 years later, our daughters love it. HA HA !

Loved Saturday mornings with PeeWee! I so totally got it, as did my friends and we were in our early 20's! Love the character and am overjoyed Paul Reubens has kept the character alive! What true fan boomer wouldn't watch a new, updated version of this classic. YES CLASSIC!!!!

I would love to see a new version of PeeWee's Adventures! That was one of the greatest Saturday-morning shows when I was growing up.

I wonder if the DVD boxed set is still available...?
