As you can see, this is a tank operating under the command of a cellphone. It's quite a small tank, granted, but should be enough to regain control of the living room from kittens, puppies, etc., without congressional approval. Tamlyn created it from a remote-controlled chassis and the Android-friendly IOIO USB microcontroller board.

I’m still not sure what this robot will ultimately do but an obvious first step seemed to be to make it remote controllable over the internet.

This is my first Android project but thankfully the Android SDK and documentation are outstanding. With the help of a few tutorials I went from Hello World to a simple app that accepted HTTP connections in just a few hours.

Not only does this maker not trust Google, he’s got a tank to back him up.

Hmm..I like the idea of plugging a cellphone into a gadget or vehicle to control it, or have it follow specific instructions/algorithms.

So the IOIO board basically turns an Android phone into a control device for making robots (or pretty much anything)?  Please correct me if I’m wrong.  I’ve been looking for something kinda like this to tinker with.

Me too.  Wonder if you can access the camera on the phone remotely…

I like the way the cellphone appears to be saluting while driving the vehicle.
