Wonderful homage by Ted Martens for Maru the Cat (as mentioned today, the famous internet cat has a new book out). The artists explains, "I’m trying to get more 3D work in my portfolio. Here’s a low poly scene of Maru the cat playing with boxes. (just a mockup – not a game). 436 triangles, 3 textures @ 128×128 each."

Link to the series: Low Poly Maru (thanks, Andrew Woolridge!)

Why not a game? We want a game!

Aw, those are some adorable models.

Reminds me of quite a few japanese PSX games.  Especially in early PSX games you had some amazing texture work in the games to help disguise and mitigate the problematic low-poly models.  this lasted for quite some time.  Games like Megaman Legend (Rockman Dash) 1/2 or the later BoF games… I think it was IV that was the first released on PSX, these are in my opinion some of the most beautiful examples of texturework i’ve seen in a video game.

If that cat doesn’t watch out he’s going to get picked up by a Katamari.
