In this advertisement for the HP TouchPad, a singer asks, "Let me entertain you! Let me make you smile!" Unfortunately for HP, customers were insufficiently entertained by the tablet, and they did not smile. The result? Death. Along with the Pre smartphone, HP is canning the TouchPad and will "explore options to optimize the value" of WebOS, the operating system used by both. HP paid $1.2bn for Palm last year.
The announcement follows earlier news that it will spin off its PC division to focus on software. But not WebOS.
