I’m not a big fan of “now a word from our sponsor” moments/posts, but I have to say, at least BB and Watchismo are completely open about it, and I really dig some of Watchismo’s wares. Which isn’t to say I’ll ever be able to afford any. :-(

It’s not just the openness, it’s the matter of factness and lack of hyperbole or marketing speak in the few mentions I have seen of Watchismo here. Refreshing. Not sure it will lead me to buy a watch, but I do now know how to spell the brand name.

They do have some inexpensive stuff — and you can always use the vintage section to inform risky-but-cheap grabs on eBay.

Why does it say “Watchismo sponsoring Boing Boing Blast”? I suppose they pay for more than a few emails to get featured every week.

    • David Pescovitz

Nope. Watchismo is the exclusive (and first ever!) sponsor of our email newsletter, Boing Boing Blast, that Rob linked to in the post.

I guess what’s puzzling to us is, why doesn’t anyone else get shout-outs like this? I mean, is a daily e-mail really something that needs an exclusive sponsor?

I think it makes more sense, conceptually, that whatever they’re paying for their sponsorship is going toward BB as a whole and not one specific (and inexpensive – near-free I’d think) thing.

I mean, I know this is classic advertising stuff – singling out a single thing to sponsor means you get your name mentioned every time that thing happens (like the traffic report on the radio, for example). But, it just doesn’t make much sense in this case.

Not that I’m complaining, I like to look at the watches mentioned each time and have been tempted a couple times to buy (including this time, there are a couple of pretty neat ones) except that I don’t have a job. The BB coupon this time is particularly nice, and I’ve wondered why that isn’t a normal part of these shout-outs.

I love Wachismo.  Watch Porn at its best.  BB is going about the sponsorship thing the right way.  You gotta pay them bills man!
