Cowboys vs. Wolves: Snapshots, and Xeni and Miles on "The Madeleine Brand Show"

PBS NewsHour science correspondent Miles O'Brien and I had a conversation with The Madeleine Brand Show (a Los Angeles-based radio show on which I'm a regular guest), to discuss Miles' recent PBS NewsHour report on the return of wolf hunting to the American West. I traveled with Miles and producer Jenny Marder, and served as assistant cameraman on the shoot—a fun adventure for me, and, my first television camera credit.

For the first time in years, hunting season for the once-endangered gray wolf has begun in Idaho and Montana to reduce the population of this native predator. Cattle ranchers say the hunts are necessary to protect their herds, but environmentalists disagree. Listen to our discussion about the story on the radio, here.

My iPhone snapshots from the road embedded below, or view them one by one here. Below, from another gallery of our snapshots on the PBS NewsHour website, Miles holds the skull of a wolf pup that was killed after attacking a calf in Centennial Valley, Montana.

And below, in case you missed it, the video of the final PBS NewsHour report.
