Battles is hands down one of the best lives shows i’ve ever seen. Stanier was drumming so hard that he was literally steaming.

I’m going to miss Braxton but Gloss Drop is a fantastic album. It feels optimistic to me where Mirrored felt depressive and bleak. Ice cream, Sweetie & Shags, Wall Street – all great songs.

now if they’d just put their song from the twilight soundtrack on an album…!

Wait, how is this math rock? It’s in 2/4 from what I can tell. Go listen to Discipline, by King Crimson (in 11/13) and then get back to me about “math rock”.

This album holds up really well. Better than a lot of the Don Caballero and its ilk. God Bless Math Rock Super Groups.

Just want to chime in on the “this was the best stuff out of 2007″ side. IMHO this is a brilliant album, but clearly polarizing – either you love it or hate it. I mean really – the kitchen IS the cook people.

That was strange. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t like it that much, either. As a soundtrack to a fever dream, it would be perfect.

Agreed, I never ‘got’ this track, despite liking loads of other stuff on the same labels etc etc.

To me it always sounded like what your MOR-loving parents hear when you, as a precocious 15-year-old, play them post-rock.

I have to ask – what the hell was that noise? I listen to most genres, and I’m open minded enough to give any kind of music a chance — but hell if I call that music. It was jarring noise, at best. :-/

When my kids first heard this song, they asked—with some concern, I think—about the strange new direction Alvin and the Chipmunks were taking with their music.

Although I’m not totally sold on the premise of the headline, I can wholeheartedly get behind the awesomeness of this song. It was this track (as well as “Dead Mantra” by Dead Skeletons and one or two others) on a loop that got me through a recent half marathon.Here’s the Dead Skeletons track. I approve of this song. Battles has been a favorite for a while, I’m kind of curious how the new direction they seem to be going in works out.
