Over the past week, I've been tuning in to various live video streams from cities around the US on OccupyStream. An excellent resource for "live television by the people," from protests all over. When the police in Boston cracked down on demonstrators last night, arresting more than a hundred, all of the action was live-streamed here.

Boing Boing editor/partner and tech culture journalist Xeni Jardin hosts and produces Boing Boing's in-flight TV channel on Virgin America airlines (#10 on the dial), and writes about living with breast cancer. Diagnosed in 2011. @xeni on Twitter. email: xeni@boingboing.net.

that should be a joke… or there’s some context missing…
but come on, poweraid, gatoraid? how about some fricking plain water???
I know this is no hunger strike, but I find this lack of austerity a bit silly.
That said, now excuse me while I go back to my cave…

I saw the same thing – we’re protesting unnecessary spending, bring us unnecessary beverages!  Coconut water?  Really?

  • ChicagoD

I can see why they might want fluids that replace electrolytes. I don’t know what coconut water is, but I assume it is delicious with rum, so I support that as well.

ChicagoD is right. If they are in LA, and it looks like they are, then there are probably some people sweating up a storm being outside all day. In that case, sports drinks are a bit better than water sometimes. Also, OccupyMN always seems to have water, so maybe they’re stocked up on water too.

A friend who is studying nutrition told me recently that coconut water is the one ‘food’ that a person can live off without having to consume anything else, e.g. in a famine situation.  Apparently it’s nutritionally ‘complete’.

But was I right that it is delicious with rum? That’s what I would have guessed. Nutrition is a nice side benefit though.

Ha ha, you’d think so, but apparently it tastes like sh*t and takes some getting used to.
