Seen at New York Comic-Con, which I'm presently attending: illustrator Pat Dorian's excellent t-shirts, which took top honors in my personal "t-shirt I would buy if I didn't have about 40 times more t-shirts than I could possibly use" competition.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

The technology that links taxonomy and Star Trek

Looks like Army Joe forgot to pull the pin on his grenade, as the safety lever is still on. He’ll also be a lot more menacing if he remembers to cock the hammer on his .45.

Yeah, it kind of ruins the moment.  Have the spoon flying off and a wisp of smoke as the timing charge burns down would be much better.

The gun thing is common in comics and movies.  Or they cock it three times as the scene progresses.

For anyone questioning BoingBoing’s endorsement of militarism: this guy is clearly fighting the Nazis in 1937 Spain…

I love it when they sloooowly cock it while the threatened person stands frozen and cock-eyed with fear instead of kicking them in the nuts.

The only movie I can recall that has ignited, smoking grenades is Audie Murphy’s autobiographical “To Hell And Back.” I guess he was his own technical adviser.

With the square jaw and the collar fur, I think that might be Aldo Ray.
