Well the dictionaries he’s referring to could be Websters, which is considered to be pretty standard. But even if you look at something more dynamic and contemporary like wordnet, you will still find ‘destroy and stripped of possessions’ to be one of many definitions for rape. The fact that someone is complaining about the word being used
repeatedly when ‘forcing sexual intercourse’ isn’t what is meant might also show that these other definitions are still in common usage.

But beside my pedantic definition crazyness probably not being niggardly enough for you, you might consider hyperbole and humor as being acceptable reasons to abuse literal definitions, irregardless of whether others couldn’t care less or not…

PS rape might also be a good word to describe the affect boing-boing through disqus has on our privacy due its requirement to allow cookies from ‘all domains’ in order to post here, sigh.

I read the shirt as a way of mocking all the idiots who liken the prequel trilogy (and the fourth Indiana Jones movie) to Lucas “raping their childhoods”. As if the shirt is responding “Oh yeah? Well, show me where Lucas touched you. He didn’t actually? Well, then it’s not like ‘raping your childhood’ at all, is it?”

But maybe I’m over-thinking it.

I have the original trilogy. I have the 1997 edition. I have the original prequels. I have no desire for any of the others. George did not rape me or commit any crime on my person or childhood or psyche. The movies are his to play with as he sees fit. My problem is the deleted scenes were not interleafed into the dvds. I would have preferred that to having to go back and forth. The Lord of the Rings had that version with deleted scenes and scenes for the dvds placed in order within the movies. I don’t want to talk about what Jackson cut out or put in here.

So, about the t-shirt, LOL and meh.

Uh… you DO realize that the definition or rape goes beyond force sexual contact, right?

It also means: an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside.
Or: the act of seizing and carrying off by force. (Archaic)

I don’t think the shirt has anything to do with rape, rather its about the inappropriate fondling of the original movies.

This might be off topic, but i have a borderline case Tourette syndrome, and when i screw up, i reflexively make verbal threats of self-rape to myself. And when i make that threat of self-rape to myself it is NOT a joke. Indeed, i am often a victim of self-rape. But sometimes I do joke with myself about raping me, and then i all have a good laugh, but then afterwards, i worry i might be giving myself Stockholm syndrome.
(its hard to get anyone to believe how cruel i am to me, because i’m really nice to myself when i know i’m being observed,)
