Man, what's happening to this place? Back in the day, I could be assured of seeing at least a few commenters letting Pesco know that magic isn't real. How will the poor guy keep himself from falling under the spell of irrationalism?

Supposedly Crowley once freaked out Dylan Thomas. They were both in a crowded room sitting fairly far apart. Thomas was doodling on a piece of paper, and at one point Crowley walked by and handed him an exact copy of what Thomas had been drawing. I say "supposedly" because Thomas never spoke or wrote about the event himself that I know of, and the sole witness may have exaggerated details or even fabricated the whole event.

Assuming it's true, though, being able to copy someone else's doodle from across the room is still small potatoes when compared to being able to shoot fire out of the end of a broomstick. With every Crowley story I remember Elphaba's odds keep going up.

a friends' son told me a story once of growing up in a building here in NYC in the 80's where Margaret Hamilton was one of the neighbors and on Halloween she would dress up as the WWotW and hand out candy to trick or treaters. pretty amazing!

Definitely the witch. What would Crowley even do, give her an ominous tarot reading?

I don't know which I'd lay money on. I'm too upset from having realized that, entertaining as this is, it's not a real photograph of Margaret Hamilton meeting Aleister Crowley.

Isn't there a story of Crowley and some friends attempting to restore Akhenaten with a homemade spell and being frightened off by a thunderstorm? If that's true I'd put my money on the Wicked Witch. She's not afraid of a little lightning.

So, your money is on the witch, huh? Well. . . flying monkeys or not, I'm willing to bet Mr. Crowley could handle a bucket of water without melting.

"Ohhhh what a worlllld!"

Douglas Trumbull, who has done special effects for many movies, is a second generation effects genius. His father worked on the flying monkey scene in the Wizard of Oz and was a consultant on effects up until the time of his death.
