Do remember that he did some very physical things, for a while he and his climbing partner held quite a number of 2 man climbing records, and got to 22,000 feet on K2.

Supposedly Crowley once freaked out Dylan Thomas. They were both in a crowded room sitting fairly far apart. Thomas was doodling on a piece of paper, and at one point Crowley walked by and handed him an exact copy of what Thomas had been drawing. I say “supposedly” because Thomas never spoke or wrote about the event himself that I know of, and the sole witness may have exaggerated details or even fabricated the whole event.

Assuming it’s true, though, being able to copy someone else’s doodle from across the room is still small potatoes when compared to being able to shoot fire out of the end of a broomstick. With every Crowley story I remember Elphaba’s odds keep going up.

a friends’ son told me a story once of growing up in a building here in NYC in the 80′s where Margaret Hamilton was one of the neighbors and on Halloween she would dress up as the WWotW and hand out candy to trick or treaters. pretty amazing!

I don’t know which I’d lay money on. I’m too upset from having realized that, entertaining as this is, it’s not a real photograph of Margaret Hamilton meeting Aleister Crowley.

Isn’t there a story of Crowley and some friends attempting to restore Akhenaten with a homemade spell and being frightened off by a thunderstorm? If that’s true I’d put my money on the Wicked Witch. She’s not afraid of a little lightning.
