Protesters are returning to re-occupy Zuccotti Park in New York City. Mayor Bloomberg's administration maintains that the occupiers will not be allowed to stay overnight. Watch the live video stream here. At the time of this blog post, a GA is taking place. NY Daily News is one of a number of news organizations live-blogging from the park tonight.

    Looks like a big event is planned for Thursday. Sorry 1%, pushing everybody out of a park is not going to stop anything.

    FYI – currently the Global Revolution stream linked in the post is showing footage from Berkeley. http://www.ustream.com/theother99 is streaming live from Zuccotti Park though.

    I’m looking forward to Occupy Foreclosures.

    I heard about the re-occupation of Zuccotti Park a little while ago, by way of Brian Williams. He said this, and I guess I didn’t really make the mental connection until that time. To paraphrase, he mentioned that these protests all over the US seem similar to what we now call the “hippie” movement in the 1960′s.

    I’m not particularly liberal or conservative, so I don’t really feel anything about hippies. But I will say that making the connection between the past and present groups is a little exciting to me. After all, the hippies of the 1960′s helped usher in a sort of renaissance, where it became okay to wear casual clothes, be yourself, explore what it means to be alive, maybe smoke a little doobie or whatever you like. Sure, there are risks, but a life without any risk at all isn’t living.

    Maybe these OWS groups, given enough time, can help society improve in new ways. Time will tell, but the suggestion of a positive cultural shift is enough to improve my outlook on the whole “Occupy” situation and what it means for society.

    Xeni, what’s a GA?

      GA = General Assembly

      Time isn’t what they need, what they need is the 1% to be less selfishly bastardly about everything and try sharing. That isn’t a matter of time, strictly speaking.

      And, a GA is a General Assembly, the place where everyone goes to reach consensus on issues and decide what the group is doing. It’s less efficient than other methods, but, much more community oriented in terms of decision making.

    Ah. That makes sense. Thanks

    Call Bloomberg at 212-NEW-YORK and ask him to detail any and all coordination between New York City, the FBI and Homeland Security

    It still amazes me a tad that the OWS doesn’t just play by the book. Don’t hand weaponry to the enemy. Camping chairs and mountain ponchos (https://jerven.secure.flexiweb.no/) combined with a true rotational schedule ought to fill the park at all times throughout winter without violating any rules. It ought to be rather obvious how constructing makeshift camps tends to create vulnerable targets. Be like water.

      Be like water.

      I see your point.  But the reason water wears down rocks is because of resistance.  OWS has already proven itself to be adaptable by its very nature.  But, we don’t want to stop becoming a resistance or we’ll have no effect at all.

      And following stupid rules that corporatists make is what got us ALL in this mess in the first place.
