Patrick Roberts art opening in LA: Saturday, November 19, 2011

201111151542

On Saturday, November 19, 2011, an assortment of collage/assemblage on paper and canvas, as well as close to 1,000 re-faced baseball cards by Los Angeles-based artist Pat Roberts will be on display at 401 West Los Feliz Blvd. in Glendale, CA.

201111151543-1The collage work, "This Unvoyageable Gulf Obscure," explores the idea that in our society we are consumed by one singular story. Over time, the language of our culture has been replaced by an inundation of impelling media that no longer tells unique messages but one homogenous notion: media is good. The intent of this message is to placate and subdue us; to arrest us from questioning or pursuing anything else.

201111151543For this series, a voluminous amount of print media (books, magazines, comics, newspapers and advertisements) was cut up and the images were reassembled into new and different stories. These alternative stories exist simultaneously beneath the artifice of our popular culture. And they are held together by an invisible stranglehold that bonds all of the universe in a tenacious, harmonic balance: clear tape.

Opening reception: Saturday, November 19th, 6pm-9pm.
