Mitt Romney today said that 'Mitt' was his first name, a statement that makes no sense even as the joke it must surely have been intended as. This led commentators to suggest that he just says whatever comes into his mind that he thinks might get him elected.
"I'm Mitt Romney and yes, Wolf, that's also my first name," he said to dead silence from the audience. … The blogosphere immediately went abuzz with the half-truth, and critics pounced on Romney's flip-flopper reputation.
Even the President Obama-backing AFL-CIO pounced on Twitter:"Mitt Romney lies about unions, Obama, and…his first name."
His full name is in fact Willard Mittens Romney.
