My old Parisian friend Nicole Locher, creator of the wildly success Locher's line of supersweet and crass embroidered apparel, just launched a fun series of cotton canvas bags made from unbleached and undyed cotton. In true Locher style, each Maude & Tilda bag is emblazoned with a charmingly belligerent anti-fashion or suggestive statement. Apparently, "an adult uses an average of 300 plastic bags a year and most of them are only used for 12 minutes before they get thrown away again." Maude & Tilda

By “crass” do you mean “smug”?

    • Mister44

Smug – yes – a very good world

  • David Pescovitz

No, but “smug” is another good one!

I have a bag from Archie McPhee that says “Buy Local/Made in China”.

    • David Pescovitz

      hahah! that’s awesome.

  • djpeebz

Bit disappointing.  I thought you meant something like this: http://www.punkforpeace.com/catalog/i142678.jpg  Much better…

  • rafterman

Each bag comes with a complimentary glass emblazoned with witty slogan letting others know how much better you are than them. Each glass is hand crafted and made from locally sourced materials. Perfect for containing your farts, this glass will allow you to huff your own emissions all night long in style. A must have for your next Tom Waits listening party.

What’s the point of being better than someone if nobody knows it?

  • retepslluerb

Anti-fashion? In what way? Looks clearly like fashion to me.

    • Lobster

That’s because you’re not looking at it IRONICALLY.

    • David Pescovitz

Well, I said they are “anti-fashion fashionable” bags. IMO, they kinda make fun of fancy expensive designer bags.

    Humblebag bags.

  • Steve Taylor

These look like something that Edina from Absolutely Fabulous would just love.

  • http://beautifulsynthesis.com Andrea

Nope, not giving up my $1 reusable grocery bag. Especially because it is blue, and says “This bag is green”. (Silliness over smugness any day!)

    “What’s in the bag?”
    “Pain.”

I’m not sure what’s “anti-fashion” or “charming” about saying that you’ll fuck for Chanel? In my opinion, these bags proclaim that the owner is a slave of want, at any cost, for the hollow victory of owning a bag by Hermes. I think all the slogans are really sad and offensive, and I’d feel pity for any woman carrying one of these. Anya Hindmarche did this much better, and with more class. And on a side note, if a canvas tote bag needs to be delicately washed in cold water it’s probably not good canvas for a tote bag, however many eco buzz words can be used to describe it.

  • David Pescovitz

I can guarantee you that none of the women I know who would carry these, including Nicole, is in need of your pity. Also, you really just don’t get it.

  • Marktech

Oh, I am so dumping my present bags-for-life to use these instead!

  • Chris Hogan

Anya Hindmarsh has a lot to answer for.
