Right, I wasn’t very clear, but the way I read your post, I visualized you already inside the store, standing in front of the shelf for an hour.  Weird, huh?  Then again, Black Friday is proof that truth can be stranger than fiction, not even Philip K Dick could have predicted it.

Girls and mothers in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, were allegedly punching each other at a Victoria’s Secret store where a great deal on yoga clothing was causing a stir.

Security workers reportedly used pepper spray on shoppers who began grabbing at goods before they were unloaded from pallets at a Walmart in Kinston, North Carolina.

Anyway, the sale started, I grabbed the game and was walking home by 10:10 p.m. If I had to have the game “now” I would have bought it back in October when it came out.  I am not ashamed to say it was a perfectly fine evening to spend shopping after spending all day with family members and seven wild nephews.

Part of me wants to demand that this person be so severely punished that nobody would ever think to do such a thing again, but another part of me realizes that punishing civilians for something cops get away with perpetuates an even bigger problem.

True, but the appropraite response to the bigger problem isn’t to turn a blind eye to civilians behaving badly — it’s to make sure the cops know it’s unacceptable for them, too.

They are a retailer — it’s their job to try to generate excitement around selling products.

In this case, I think the fault lies with the smelly hoards of Walmart shoppers, responding all Pavlov-like to the ringing bell. If you’ll want to be disgusted by something, be disgusted by the fellow members of your race, not the retailer. If lots of folks weren’t this way already, Walmart wouldn’t exist.

You can argue that they’re creating a need — as opposed to fulfilling one — and in a way you’d be right… but my comment still stands. If people lived up to half of their inflated opinion of themselves, they’d be immune to that kind of manipulation.

At least one has died, many more have been injured, and STILL this grotesque company encourages the frenzied mob mentality every year, with crowd control lines minimally implemented as an afterthought and signs stating “Blitz line starts here”.

The Rubicon was crossed a long time ago, by shopping here people damaged their local economies, which makes more people buy their irresistibly cheap shit here, which makes the last of the mom-and-pop stores go under, you get the picture, a self-perpetuating mechanism feeding on economic desperation.

Whenever I have to shop for stuff (say, a big box of diapers) at a large store like this, I make it a point to go to Sears, Target or KMart, even if it’s less convenient and/or a bit more expensive.

What wise state implemented laws that made it inconvenient for Walmart to enter their community?  I think it was Delaware or Maryland.
