ThinkGeek's Portal bookends are a wonderfully geeky way to keep your books from falling off the shelf. Great for the bookish gamers in your life.

Portal Bookends (Thanks, Fipi Lele!)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Also great for containing actual games, which are roughly book-sized.

I have far too many books to actually use bookends.  What I need are more shelves!

I find book ends great for breaking up the visuals of shelf after shelf of books.  And these would be awesome put on different shelves or even in different rooms!  But yes, you would need at least a few inches of empty shelf space to allow for these.  Tough to come by in crowded bookshelves.

I want them I want them I want them. I wish I had books still now… damn you Kindle!

You could always put your kindle on the shelf when you’re not using it and have these on either side of it. That’s one reason I can’t get full into ebooks I love the look of a full bookshelf way too much.

I just imagined either the Cyngus or Maximillian (from the Black Hole) split into each side or Lawrence Fishburn and  Sam Neil…
