If the police don’t record or investigate something as a crime, it does not show up in their statistics.

For example, from statistics one would assume that murders over questionable Sumo Wrestling dealings in Japan are extremely rare. This is in fact not the case (or at least not as rare as it seems), as some bold reporters can tell you, it just goes largely unreported if there is not immediately a clear suspect. Thus, the crime rate officially appears different than it actually is.

The overly corrupt police force results in people being more scared to commit crimes and thus lowering the crime rate.
It’s a hypothesis; those don’t require data because according to the dictionary it is:
A supposition or proposed examination made as a basis for reasoning, WITHOUT THE ASSUMPTION OF ITS TRUTH.

Your “just a thought” comment was completely empty and didn’t actually rely on facts. It was just a “feeling” that really doesn’t hold up water when examined.

You made a grand claim: That this corruption probably resulted in lower crime rates, but you can’t even back it up. And I pointed out the ridiculousness of your comment. Not to mention that the very little text in the body of the post completely contradicted your statement (how do you expect crime rates to drop if the wrong people are being arrested??).

If you want to avoid your empty and completely ridiculous claims being criticized maybe, just maybe, don’t say them out-loud. Just a thought.

Correlation does not imply causation. Unless you have actual research and data to back up your claims? ….waiting!

Additionally, yeah, let’s violate the constitution, laws, and our civil rights in the guise of “dropping the crime rate”.

This corruption has nothing to do with “dropping crime rates”. It has to do with greed and power.

Also, I’m not entirely sure how this:

drops crime rates. How, exactly, does *arresting the wrong people* and letting the actual criminals roam free, drop crime rates?

This corruption is probably what has been lowering the crime rate since the 1980s. Just a thought.
