My partner, (Japanese, 5 years together) and I watched all her videos only a few days ago. We have never laughed so hard in our lives. Straight up your-gut-hurts belly laughs.
Her English ability is about the same as my partner’s, so it was pretty close to home! I remember trying to explain a Japanese movie in English over 12 years ago when I first started to study it – it was pretty much the same… but I think Mika was much better!I checked out some of the other videos in the channel, but they don’t really hold a candle to Mika’s cuteness!

I showed this to some of my Japanese friends. They said Mika's explanation of Inception was easier to understand than the movie itself. Also: No Star Wars link? That has to be one of the funniest. This is an excellent exercise for anyone learning a language as it quickly helps you realise how many words are missing from your vocabulary. Mad respect to Mika for trying hard to learn English and having a good sense of humor. If you ever have to review something in Japanese your best friend is the phrase "sore de" which translates to "..and thennnnnnn.." PS: another reason to add Laughing Squid to your daily trawl: They posted this in Oct 2011.

Exactly. Her mastery of English is far greater than my grasp of ANY Asian language. So Kudos for her on having the guts to make the attempt to explain this in English.

Actually I think that was a recording of the original story session at Sony. The staff writers didn’t really polish it up much from there.
