Bill Lin snapped this picture of a ice-sculpture AT-AT in Bend, OR, made with chisel and chainsaw. This is just a little thumbnail, click through to see the full image at Kotaku. AT-ATs make surprisingly good fanac fodder.

Right At Home On Hoth (via Neatorama)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

That looks cool. But unless it’s displayed outside in the cold, it would be unstable for any length of time. The legs and neck would weaken and melt first. Most party ice sculptures  are designed to be larger at the base for stability.
